The Perry Fire Department was organized in 1910 . It is said that the first volunteer department was formed and that it had seven (7) members.  If the bell was sounded alerting the men of a fire, they would then have to go to the department and pull the "Golden Hose Wheel" to the closest hydrant.  The City of Perry did not have a adequate water supply so the primary objective was to wet down the surrounding buildings.  Many changes have occurred since we began.

    Scope/Intent

The Perry Fire Department functions as a public safety entity for the citizens and visitors of the City of Perry.  The department operates one (1) fire station, equipped with a total of five (5) trucks [two (2) pumpers, one (1) ladder truck, one (1) rescue pumper, and one (1) service truck].   Areas of service provided include Fire Suppression, First Responder Medical, Fire Safety Education and Prevention, Code Enforcement, High Angle and Confined Space Rescue.  The department has eighteen (18) full-time firefighters [including the Fire Captain and Secretary] and Six (6) part-time personnel.  All members are trained to the highest level offered by the Georgia Public Safety Training Center.

The Perry Fire Department's response area covers approximately +12,000 citizens and as many visitors who utilize Perry as a hub for business, culture, education, leisure, and retail.  In 2005, the Perry Fire Department responded to over 844 fire and rescue calls and conducted over 30 Public Safety Education classes with approximately 2,000 students.
