Water
Drinking water for the city is supplied by
two (2) plants, one (1) located on the north side [Woodlawn Drive] of the city
with the other located in the center [Main Street].
The Woodlawn Drive Plant has a capacity of
4,000,000 gallons per day. It also has many innovative systems, including
computer monitoring and control of treatment processes and a SCADA system to
monitor water levels in all elevated tanks in the system. Water for the plant
is taken from three (3) deep wells located in various locations throughout the
city with a storage capacity of 2,000,000 gallons. The system has a consumption
average of 1,600,000 gallons per day with a maximum of 3,300,000 gallons per
day. Pumping capacity is 5,250 gallons per minute.
The Main Street Plant has a capacity of
1,000,000 gallons per day. Water for the plant is taken from two (2) deep wells
located in various locations throughout the city.
Wastewater
The City of Perry operates one (1)
wastewater treatment facility. The Frank Satterfield Water Pollution Control
Plant (WPCP) has a capacity of 3,000,000 gallons per day with a plant load of
1500,000 gallons per day. The Frank Satterfield Wastewater Facility is a
primary and secondary treatment plant. The Frank Satterfield WPCP discharges
into the Big Indian Creek.
The City of Perry is developing an
Industrial Pretreatment Program in concert with the EPD and works with
industries in Perry to control the discharge of metals and other harmful
pollutants into the treatment plant. The program goals is to cooperate with
industries to keep their raw materials out of the sewer system and utilize them
as products. This helps the industries while preventing damage to the treatment
system and the environment.
Industrial customers discharging water used
for industrial processes or large volumes of cooling water other material into
the sanitary sewer system of the City of Perry must obtain a permit for such
discharge. The program is administered by the Water/Wastewater Superintendent.
Stopped Sewers
Most sewer stoppages in individual
buildings are caused by roots or by grease in the lines owned by the property
owner. However, if water is flowing from the plumbing and no water has been run
into any fixture in the building, please call the Wastewater Department [(478)
988-2732 during office hours and 911 after hours] immediately, and personnel
will be sent to check the city mains. If the plumbing fixtures simply will not
drain, the property owner is advised to call the City of Perry first before
calling a plumbing repair service to have their lines checked. If the City of
Perry personnel finds the blockage is on the owner's side, the owner is then
responsible for contacting a plumbing repair service to correct the problem.
Water and Wastewater Plant Tours
The City of Perry Water and Wastewater
Plants are open to the public for tours, and personnel are available for

schedule a tour. Groups of up to 20 people may be accommodated at one time if
