The City of Perry is working to identify and clean up some of our brownfield sites! If you would like to provide your input or have your questions answered, please make plans to attend a public hearing on December 2, 2015 at 5:30 p.m. at the Perry City Hall. Perry Brand Is Coming Along!

Progress continues on the Perry Branding Initiative, a community-wide effort aimed at differentiating our community, bringing visitors and businesses into Perry, and ensuring we provide the Perry experience that people desire. A collaborative effort on behalf of the Perry Area Chamber of Commerce, Discover Perry, Uptown Perry Partnership, Perry Downtown Development Authority, Perry Area Historical Society, Perry Downtown Merchants Association, Perry Main Street, and the City of Perry, this critical effort will help promote the economic and social vitality in Perry for years to come. Having completed the Research and Analysis phase of the project and working on the creative aspects of our brand, it is becoming increasingly clear as to who we are as a community, what our strengths and weaknesses are, and how we can market ourselves to the rest of the world. Our brand is materializing…and it’s going to be something that we as a community can really be proud of. Remember, a brand is so much more than just a logo or a tagline. Our brand is a reflection of Perry. Who we are, what we eat, the way we welcome people to our community, etc. Perry’s brand is the complete experience of our community and our community’s promise to others. Form-Based Code Coming to Perry: We Need Your Help!

The City of Perry is constantly exploring new and progressive avenues in working to promote a healthy, vibrant, and stable community. Currently, the City is working to develop and implement form-based code in specific areas of the City starting with the General Courtney Hodges Boulevard corridor. Form-based code “fosters predictable built results and a high-quality public realm by using physical form (rather than separation of uses) as the organizing principle for the code” and will allow property owners to utilize their property for a wider range of uses, help guide development in our community, and make our commercial districts more attractive and marketable. Form-based code is a progressive, valuable tool available to communities that, when used appropriately and tailored to meet the unique goals and needs of community, can promote favorable community growth, economic development, and general community redevelopment. As was mentioned, the major benefit of form-based code will be to provide for a wider range of land uses than are currently allowed. The whole idea is to work towards a situation where property in the City can be utilized for its best and highest use, not simply the uses allowed under our current zoning structure. The City of Perry has entered into a contract with TSW out of Atlanta for the development and implementation of the form-based code. It is our goal to create a sustainable and effective code that mirrors the community’s vision for the City in regards to development and land use. Community input and support will be critical to the success of this endeavor. We want your input and assistance in developing a code that benefits you. There will be multiple opportunities available to you where you will be able to express your concerns, desires, etc. regarding the form-based code and have your questions answered. The first of these opportunities will be on Thursday, November 19 at 5:30 p.m. at the Perry Arts Center, 1121 Macon Road, Perry, GA. Form-based codes have been implemented in communities across the nation with great success and more and more communities are shifting away from archaic traditional zoning structures in favor of a less-restrictive, community-based approach to land use regulations. Form-based code centers on inclusion, finding a way to make development happen, rather than exclusion, the traditional idea behind zoning that often times serves to hinder development.
