Perry Awarded CHIP Grant!

June 1, 2016

The City of Perry was awarded $306,000 through the Community HOME Investment Program (CHIP) administered by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) for housing rehabilitation activities in Perry’s Sand Hill neighborhood! In an effort led by the City of Perry Housing Team the City prepared and submitted, with the assistance of Grant Specialists of Georgia, Inc., an application for funding in December 2015 that centered on rehabilitating owner-occupied homes in Sand Hill, a target neighborhood for ongoing Georgia Initiative for Community Housing (GICH) activities overseen by the Perry Housing Team. Sand Hill is an historic mill neighborhood with approximately 190 homes just South of Downtown Perry, many of them substandard or dilapidated. This grant will work in conjunction with a number of ongoing efforts in the neighborhood geared towards bettering the homes and lives of Sand Hill residents. Moving forward, funds should be available for use by August or September of this year and grant funded rehabilitation projects will be awarded on a first come, first serve basis. The City will be accepting requests and compiling a list of possible projects beginning in July. In order to be eligible homes must be owner-occupied and the owners must meet specific income requirements. If you live in Sand Hill and are interested in working with the Perry Housing Team on a rehabilitation project for your home please contact Mrs. Christine Sewell with the City of Perry Department of Community Development at (478) 988-2720.
