Perry Housing Week set for September 11-17!

Perry Housing Week September 11-17, 2016 Please make plans to join the Perry Housing Team and the Sand Hill neighborhood in celebrating fair, affordable, and quality housing here in Perry with the first ever Perry Housing Week! Kicking off the week will be a coming together of neighborhood residents and local/state officials to celebrate Housing Week and “kick off” the CHIP activities. Later in the week we will be meeting our friends in Sand Hill with door-to-door outreach providing housing resources and information and promoting the  neighborhood cleanup and cookout. Wrapping up Perry Housing Week will be a neighborhood clean up and cookout that Saturday morning! All are welcome! BOOST Grant Recipients Announced

The recipients of a crowd-funded grant to “boost” downtown Perry’s small businesses were announced Friday. Two of a Kind received an $850 grant to purchase equipment and software to track inventory and make sales transactions easier, and Gentry Downtown Market received a $250 grant to update the business’ point of sale system to purchase a card reader that will enable the business to provide more security when processing customers’ credit and debit cards. Business owners were surprised Friday afternoon with a big check presentation, balloons and community members who wanted to congratulate the recipients. Davida’s Hair Salon and Tumblecheer Heroes each received a grant in the first round of awards last summer.  The grant for Davida’s helped with the cost of a new roof, while the grant to Tumblecheer Heroes aided with the costs to update the business’ building façade. In the second round of grants awarded in December, Mia’s Skincare Salon received funds to purchase a new steamer to perform facials, and Liberty Tax Service received a grant to purchase marketing materials. BOOST Downtown Perry is an investment group that provides grant funds to entrepreneurs and owners of small businesses in the downtown development district.  Investors, known as BOOSTers, donate $100 twice a year to fund the program.  Perry Downtown Development Authority, the Economic Vitality Committee of Perry’s Main Street program, oversees the program, and BOOSTers vote on applications. Applicants may apply for funds for purchasing supplies, business equipment, marketing and advertising, a security system or eligible professional services. BOOSTed businesses, those who received the crowd-funded, micro-grants, received a window cling to celebrate their participation in the program and to help publicize BOOST throughout the community.
