Historic Downtown Tram Tour

September 25, 2017

Perry Main Street will host a free tram tour of historic downtown on Tuesday, Oct. 3. The Perry Main Street Program organizes the tours in partnership with the Perry Area Historical Society as heritage education outreach.  The educational program provided by Ellie Loudermilk will include information about the history of Perry, its residents and its architecture. The route will feature numerous historic buildings in downtown, including the one-room Springhill School, the New Perry Hotel, the Armory building that now houses the Perry Arts Center, the former Houston County Bank and the tin-front building that was once the Toomer Funeral Home.  The tour will conclude with a brief visit at the Perry Area Historical Society’s Museum. The tram tour will begin at and return to the First Baptist Church parking lot on Main Street.  Tours will start promptly at 5:30 p.m. Seating per tour is limited to 20 on a first-come, first-served basis. Because there has been an overwhelming response to previous tram tours, participants are required to register in advance and to arrive at the church parking lot by 5:15 p.m. To register or for more information, contact Perry Main Street Coordinator Catherine Edgemon at (478) 988-2758.
