City of Perry Receives Over One Million Dollars in Grants

The City of Perry received over one million dollars in grant money during the Georgia Department of Community Affairs conference in October. Department of Community Affairs Commissioner Christopher Nunn presented two checks to Councilman Willie King during the conference.  Community Development Director Bryan Wood and Assistant City Manager Robert Smith were also in attendance. The $300,000 Community Home Investment Program (CHIP) Grant will be used to improve five homes in the Sandhill community which will complete the housing improvements in the neighborhood. The $996,350 Community Development Block Grant is marked to be used for street and storm drainage improvements along with housing rehabilitation in the Creekwood area.  This project will benefit 124 citizens specifically along Riley Street, Gordy Street, Stanley Street, and Baird Drive. Fall Neighborhood Clean Up Event

Fall Neighborhood Clean Up Event

The Perry Housing Team is hosting its annual Fall Neighborhood Cleanup event on Saturday, November 9 beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Creekwood Park. Participants are provided with a light breakfast before separating into groups to begin collecting trash and recyclables around the neighborhood.  All necessary supplies will be provided.  They will be treated to lunch from Booger Bear’s Grill in appreciation of their efforts to keep Perry a beautiful place to live. Creekwood Park is located at 1107 Creekwood Drive in Perry. City of Perry Awarded Excellence in Financial Reporting

The City of Perry Finance Department was awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government of Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR). The award is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. The CAFR was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR. Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) advances excellence in government finance by providing best practices, professional development, resources and practical research for more than 20,500 members and the communities they serve.
