City of Perry Water Facility Awarded Top Honors

The City of Perry water facility received three state awards from the Georgia Association of Water Professionals (GAWP) in recognition of outstanding water and wastewater services.The City contracts with ESG Operations, Inc. in the provision of water and wastewater services.  The citizens of Perry can be confident in the water services they receive.Three GAWP awards were given at the February 18 council meeting.The George W. Burke, Jr. Facility Safety Award in recognition of Perry’s active and effective safety program and record.  Only one wastewater plant in Georgia receives this award during the year.The Outstanding Wastewater Collection System Excellence Platinum Award.  Auditors review dozens of procedures to ensure wastewater is being collected and managed properly.  This award marks the eighth year the facility received this recognition.Perry’s water facility was also awarded “Best Tasting Tap Water” for the second year in a row for District 5 in a large group of water systems.  Media Coverage City of Perry water wins three awards – Houston Home Journal Perry awarded for “Best Tasting Tap Water” – 41 NBC Perry wins “Best-Tasting Tap Water” for second year in a row – 13 WMAZ

District 2 Open House Event | February 24

Meet your District 2 representatives! Council Members Joy Peterson and Robert Jones will host an open house event for their constituents on Monday, February 24 at Matt Arthur Elementary School beginning at 6:30 p.m. The District 2 Open House will be an interactive experience for attendees with district specific information and the chance to learn about Perry services. Perry residents can find which district they live in with our online database located at Effective communication and community engagement are key priorities for Perry city council members. Each district will have their own open house event throughout the year. Dates will be released once they are available.

Perry Main Street Program Named Georgia Main Street of the Month

The City of Perry’s Main Street Program is Georgia Main Street’s “Main Street of the Month” in February. “Historic Downtown Perry has been a Classic Main Street Community since 2014. Over the last six years, we have experienced monumental growth and change that has not only diversified our business mix downtown, but our community as a whole. Our downtown, with the support of our leadership and the assistance and resources provided by the Georgia Main Street Program, is home to around 190 businesses and counting. Our Main Street program is hard at work continuing to cultivate a downtown curated of unique experiences and destinations for both our residents and visitors. There is something for everyone in Historic Downtown Perry and the future is good in the city Where Georgia Comes Together!” –Haley Bryant, Main Street Coordinator Perry’s Main Street Program is a designated Classic Main Street Community by the state of Georgia and nationally accredited by the National Main Street Center.  All Classic Main Street communities are required to meet ten standards for accreditation.  They place an emphasis on historic preservation, education, and economic development leading itself to an active and vibrant downtown. The Georgia Main Street Program began in 1980.  The initiative now serves as one of the largest Main Street networks in the country.  Perry is one of 118 Main Street Cities in Georgia.
