Downtown Businesses Benefit From Main Street Resiliency Grant

The Perry Main Street Advisory Board awarded over $4,700 in grant money to nineteen Historic Downtown Perry businesses. The grants are funded through the Perry Main Street Program Small Business Resiliency Grant. The Resiliency Fund is intended to support small businesses and their employees in Perry’s downtown district who are significantly impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak. City of Perry’s Main Street Coordinator Haley Bryant said, “As we move forward, together, the Perry Main Street program will continue to provide resources and opportunities that encourage economic stability and sustainability to our local businesses. Our hope is that our business owners feel supported as we continue to attract new businesses and visitors. We strive to create a place for everyone to call Historic Downtown Perry home. None of it would be possible without our small businesses which are the spine of our local economy and the heartbeat of our community.” Trish Cossart, business owner of Cossart Design and Board Chair of the Main Street Advisory Board, said, “The Advisory Board, along with generous donations from the Samaritan Closet organization and the Perry Convention and Visitor Bureau, were able to award a grant to nineteen of our local businesses that have been affected by the COVID-19 Pandemic.  The Main Street Program is committed to the businesses in Historic Downtown Perry. BOOST Applications Now Available

Downtown Perry’s small businesses may apply for a grant to purchase equipment and eligible supplies.   The Perry Downtown Development Authority, or DDA, is accepting applications for the 11th round of BOOST grants; applications will be accepted from June 14-July 3.  Only existing, brick-and-mortar businesses in Perry’s downtown development district are eligible to apply. Grants are awarded in $50 increments, with a maximum grant award of $1,000. Applicants may apply for funds to purchase business equipment, eligible interior renovations, façade grants if the applicant owns the property, a security system or professional services.  Grant funds may not be used for payment of salaries, debts, rent, lease, mortgage, rental deposits, utility bills, late payments or fees, alcohol, tobacco, medicine, inventory, or ingredients or components used to produce inventory. Applications must be submitted online on the City of Perry’s Economic Development page and must include quotes and other requested information.  Incomplete applications will not be considered. Program information, rules and procedures are available at http://bit.ly/2JxS4Us.  Seventeen grants totaling nearly $11,000.00 have been awarded to downtown Perry businesses since July 2015. BOOST Downtown Perry is an investment group that provides grant funds to entrepreneurs and owners of small businesses in the district.  The DDA, the economic vitality arm of Perry’s Main Street Program, holds the funds until they are awarded.   The BOOST program is always seeking more participants/businesses to assist in funding the BOOST recipients. Boil Water Advisory | Area of 1609 Northside Road & Pine Needle

BOIL WATER ADVISORY Area of 1609 Northside Road & Pine Needle May 21, 2020 | 4:00 p.m. An issue in the area 1609 Northside Road caused water pressure to drop to dangerously low levels. The Pine Needle area is also affected. A potential health hazard may exist in these areas of zero pressure from backflow and/or back-siphonage of water of unknown quality into the water distribution system. In order to protect the public from a potential health hazard, all citizens that have experienced water outages and/or low water pressures are advised to “boil” all water prior to use for drinking, cooking, or preparing baby food. The water should be boiled for at least one minute after reaching a rolling boil. The advisory will be active approximately 24 hours for testing to be completed. An update will be sent out when the advisory is lifted. Citizens should continue to boil their water until they are notified by their drinking water utility that the water system has been restored to full operation, and that the microbiological quality of the water in the distribution system is safe for human consumption.
