City of Perry Receives Over One Million Dollars in Grants

The City of Perry received over one million dollars in grant money during the Georgia Department of Community Affairs conference in October. Department of Community Affairs Commissioner Christopher Nunn presented two checks to Councilman Willie King during the conference.  Community Development Director Bryan Wood and Assistant City Manager Robert Smith were also in attendance. The $300,000 Community Home Investment Program (CHIP) Grant will be used to improve five homes in the Sandhill community which will complete the housing improvements in the neighborhood. The $996,350 Community Development Block Grant is marked to be used for street and storm drainage improvements along with housing rehabilitation in the Creekwood area.  This project will benefit 124 citizens specifically along Riley Street, Gordy Street, Stanley Street, and Baird Drive. BOOST Applications Now Available

Downtown Perry’s small businesses may apply for a grant to purchase equipment and eligible supplies. The Perry Downtown Development Authority, or DDA, is accepting applications for the tenth round of BOOST grants; applications will be accepted from November 4-22.  Only existing, brick-and-mortar businesses in Perry’s downtown development district are eligible to apply. Applicants may apply for funds to purchase business equipment, eligible interior renovations, façade grants if the applicant owns the property, a security system or professional services.  Grant funds may not be used for payment of salaries, debts, rent, lease, mortgage, rental deposits, utility bills, late payments or fees, alcohol, tobacco, medicine, inventory, or ingredients or components used to produce inventory. Applications must be submitted online on the City of Perry’s Economic Development page and must include quotes and other requested information.  Incomplete applications will not be considered.  Program information, rules and procedures are available at http://bit.ly/2JxS4Us. Grant announcements will be made in December.  Grants are awarded in $50 increments, with a maximum grant award of $1,000. Sixteen grants totaling nearly $10,000.00 have been awarded to downtown Perry businesses since July 2015. BOOST Downtown Perry is an investment group that provides grant funds to entrepreneurs and owners of small businesses in the district.  The DDA, the economic vitality arm of Perry’s Main Street Program, holds the funds until they are awarded. The BOOST program is always seeking more participants/businesses to assist in funding the BOOST recipients. “If your business is blessed and you are seeking an outlet to help support businesses in Downtown Perry, then we would be happy to add you to our BOOSTer roster.  We welcome and encourage participation from the Perry business community,” says Ashley Hardin, City of Perry Economic Development Director and DDA staff Member.
