May Day Festival

The City of Perry and the Perry Public Arts Commission are hosting the first ever May Day Festival and Downhill Gravity Race and Soap Box Derby on Saturday, May 18, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

The Downhill Gravity Race and Soap Box Derby will begin at 10:00 a.m. at City Hall, 1211 Washington Street, Perry, GA. It is free to race and you can register now until morning of the event!  To register, contact Bob Taylor at 478-988-2883 or go to our website, www.perry-ga.gov. If you’re not interested in racing, that’s okay! It’s free to watch so join us and be a part of this awesome event! It is guaranteed to be fast, fun, and family friendly!

Immediately following the race, head downtown for an outdoor art festival! The May Day Festival begins at 12:00 p.m. in Historic Downtown Perry!  The festival will feature live artists creating outdoor masterpieces in real time, an exciting interscholastic Art Throw Down hosted by Perry High School and an engaging Family Arts Area on the lawn with chalk, bubbles, caricatures, face painting, live music, food and beverage vendors and more!

There is sure to be something to excite everyone’s senses, so indulge your creative side and bring the whole family out! Join us for our first ever Downhill Gravity Race and Soap Box Derby, live art, food, drinks and live music!

DOWNHILL GRAVITY RACE/DERBY RULES:

Three wheels minimum (must be sufficient quality to support race car and driver)

Must have brakes sufficient to hold and stop race car

Must have place to put feet in safe manor

Cannot have any propulsion device other than gravity. (ie No springs, motors, launching devices, etc.)

Steering system must be safe and functional

Any building material can be used (wood, steel, plastic or any combination of materials)

No Sharp objects in driver area

Driver must wear a helmet while racing (Bike helmet at a minimum will suffice)

– All cars will be inspected prior to racing and must pass inspection to participate/race

– All contestants are required to sign a liability waiver in order to participate in this race

– Any using of feet, hands or pushing of cart during race will be grounds for disqualification
