Congratulations to Terry Mullis, owner of New Perry Cleaners, for being awarded a Main Street Façade Grant.
Through the City of Perry Main Street Facade Grant program, Terry Mullis was awarded $2,200 and recently made significant improvements to the exterior of his building at 736 Main Street. The improvements included roof and awning enhancements, exterior paint, exterior lighting, signage and landscaping.
Mullis said it was the first exterior change on the building since it was built in 1954. “The Main St. Facade Grant program helped me expand on what I had already planned to do,” Mullis said, adding the lighting and landscaping were additional improvements he may not have added had it not been for the grant funds.
The Perry Main Street Advisory Board offers a Downtown Development District Façade Program to current and active businesses located within the City of Perry’s Downtown District/Perry Main Street District. The purpose of the Facade Grant is to provide incentives to downtown business and property owners within the district to make improvements to historic properties, as well as to renovate and/or rehab buildings within the commercial core of Downtown Perry. All applications and proposed improvement projects will be reviewed and facilitated by Perry Main Street’s Design Committee.
By stimulating investment and encouraging revitalization of Perry’s Downtown District, Perry Main Street seeks to promote the historic character and sense of place that is unique to Perry through providing opportunity for business and property owners to honor their respective building’s heritage, unique architectural features, historic appearance and significance, current condition, contribution to the district and overall impact.
