New Restaurant Planned for Downtown Perry Receives $10,000 Tourism Grant

November 25, 2019

The Perry Downtown Development Authority (DDA) and Georgia Power presented a $10,000 check to Oliver Hazard’s restaurant in front of their new location at 905 Carroll Street in Historic Downtown Perry. Oliver Hazard’s founders are John Hulbert and Chad Evans.  Mr. Evans is a founder of several popular destination restaurants in downtown Macon.  Nearly all the menu items will be harvested or purchased from Georgia-based growers in a farm-to-table concept.  They hope to draw visitors who are local and “foodies” who travel to dine.  A full bar will offer liquor, wine, and craft beer from Georgia’s finest craft breweries. The name Oliver Hazard is the heartbeat of Perry’s history.  Perry, incorporated in 1824, was named after Oliver Hazard Perry, a hero from the War of 1812. City of Perry Economic Development Director, Ashley Hardin, and Mr. Hulbert applied for the Georgia Tourism Product Development Funding Program in June after the Perry Area Convention and Visitors Bureau participated in the Georgia Department of Economic Development Tourism Product Development team tour.  The program provides financial support for new and expanding tourism projects.
