Customer Service Division
The City of Perry provides water, gas, sewer and garbage collection services to its citizens and some surrounding areas immediately adjacent to the city limits.
Signing Up for Services
An activation fee is required to establish water and gas services.
- Water Activation Fee - $65.00
- Gas Activation Fee - $70.00
- Activation fees for commercial accounts will be based on the highest projected monthly usage or the residential rate, whichever is higher.
All fees must be paid prior to activation of service.
The following documentation is needed to establish services:
- Official picture identification
- Signed lease agreement, if renting
Natural Gas
The natural gas division is responsible for providing natural gas service to customers in the immediate Perry area as well as to several outlying areas in Houston County. The system can presently deliver natural gas at pressures up to approximately 250 psig to accommodate the most demanding industrial gas load.
Payments
All bills are due 15 days from the date of bill are issued or the following business day if the due date falls on a weekend or holiday. If the payment is not in the office by 5:00 p.m. on this date a 10% penalty will be added to the past due balance. Failure to receive a bill does not relieve your obligation to pay. The due date indicated is for the current month bill and does not apply to the past due balance. If past due balance has not been paid, services are subject to disconnect without prior notice. Failure to pay this current bill within 7 days after due date will result in termination of utility service.
If you feel you have received a bill in error or have another legitimate reason for not paying, you must notify the Customer Service Department in person or in writing prior to disconnection of services.
You may also drop payments into our convenient drop box located on the island in the City Hall parking lot located at 1211 Washington Street or you may mail payment by check or money order to the following address: City of Perry, Customer Service Department, P.O. Box 2030, Perry, Georgia 31069.
High Bills for Water or Sewer Services
Any customer receiving unusually high bills for service should immediately check for plumbing problems, such as broken pipes, leaking commodes, or other causes of high usage. If a problem is not readily apparent, the customer may call a customer service representative (478-988-2700) for a recheck of the billing system.
Broken/Leaking Water Meter
If water is leaking from your water meter or if the meter is broken or the box is damaged, please call a customer service representative (478-988-2700). Water department crews will be dispatched to check and correct the problem.
Broken Water Main
The City of Perry maintains all water mains in the street rights-of-way of the city. If a broken main is observed, water running from the ground or a paved surface, or a leaking fire hydrant, please call a customer service representative during business hours at 478-988-2700 or call 911 after hours, and personnel will be dispatched to check and correct the problem.
Burst Water Pipes
The City of Perry maintains all water mains and services in the street rights-of-way up to the water meter. If pipes are broken on the customer's side of the water meter, the pipe must be repaired by the property owner or a plumber hired by the property owner. If there is an emergency requiring water to be cut off to stop damage, or if the water must be cut off to make a repair, please call a customer service representative during business hours at 478-988-2700 or call 911 after hours, and personnel will be dispatched to cut off the water.
Fire Hydrant Usage
The use of fire hydrants in the City of Perry by private individuals is prohibited unless special permission is granted and a meter has been issued to measure the water used. Persons with a special need for one-time use of a hydrant or contractors requiring large amounts of water during construction phase must contact Customer Service at 478-988-2700 to complete the necessary applicaton and pay required deposits prior to obtaining service. An approved backflow prevention device or air break must be used when connecting to any hydrant.
Use of hydrants without permission of the City of Perry is strictly prohibited, as this may prevent use during an emergency or may deplete the water supply.
Swimming Pool Filling
Swimming pools in the City of Perry can be filled from the water pipes and water meter serving the property on which the pool is located. However, should the property owner wish to have the Fire Department (478-988-2850) fill their pool a fee is assessed, plus the cost of the water, see our current Fee Schedule.

Georgia State Law requires that any person that digs, demolishes, trenches, drills, bores or blasts call the Utilities Protection Center of Georgia 48 hours prior to commencement of work (The 48 hours begins the next business day following receipt by the Utilities Protection Center of the locate request.
