Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why is the City of Perry transitioning from Perry Points to Perry Alerts?

We’re upgrading to Perry Alerts to improve reliability, expand communication methods, and provide better emergency coordination through the Houston County Emergency Management Agency (EMA). The new system allows us to send alerts by text, email, and voice – and integrates directly with countywide emergency systems for faster, more targeted notifications.

2. What’s the difference between Perry Points and Perry Alerts?

Perry Points focused primarily on City news and general updates. Perry Alerts will include both community notifications and emergency alerts (must sign up with the correct category) — all from one system powered by Houston Alerts and Smart911.

3. Do I need to sign up again if I was already receiving Perry Points messages?

Yes. Because Perry Alerts is a new system, you’ll need to create a free account through Smart911to continue receiving alerts. Your Perry Points subscription will not automatically transfer.

4. How do I sign up for Perry Alerts?

You can sign up by visiting Smart911.com. Once registered, select “Perry Alerts” under Houston County to receive community and emergency updates specific to the City of Perry. Sign up for emergency alerts through the Houston County EMA while in your profile.

5. Does it cost anything to sign up?

No. Perry Alerts is a free service provided by the City of Perry and Houston County EMA. Standard message or data rates may apply depending on your phone carrier.

6. Can I choose how I receive alerts?

Yes. You can select whether you’d like to receive alerts by text, email, phone call, or social media. You can update your preferences anytime through your Smart911 account.

7. Will I get alerts for all of Houston County or just Perry?

When you register, select your location preferences to receive alerts specific to the City of Perry. You can also opt-in to receive countywide emergency notifications from Houston County EMA.

8. Will my information be shared or sold?

No. Your information is private and secure. It is used only by the City of Perry and Houston County EMA for emergency and official communications. It will not be shared or used for marketing purposes.

9. What is Smart911 and why is it part of Perry Alerts?

Smart911 is a trusted national platform that powers Houston Alerts. It allows you to create a safety profile with your contact information and preferences so local officials can reach you quickly and accurately during emergencies.
