City of Perry Proposes Millage Rate Rollback for 2026

The City of Perry is proposing a rollback of its millage rate from 12.697 mills to 12.508 mills for the 2026 tax year, reflecting the increase in property values resulting from reassessments.

The proposed rate represents a decrease of 0.189 mills from the previous year. Perry City Council is scheduled to consider and vote on the proposed millage rate during its September 15, 2026 meeting at 6:00 p.m. at Perry City Hall, 808 Carroll Street.

While the proposed millage rate is lower, the City’s net maintenance and operations tax digest has increased from approximately $1.168 billion in 2025 to $1.239 billion in 2026. The proposed levy is expected to generate approximately $15.48 million in net taxes, an increase of approximately $663,000, or 4.48%, over the previous year. The increase is driven by growth in the tax digest beyond reassessed property values.

The City’s five-year history shows the millage rate has decreased from 14.050 mills in 2021 to the proposed 12.508 mills for 2026. The rate was reduced to 12.697 mills in 2024 and remained at that level in 2025.

The 2026 tax digest and five-year history of levy will be published in accordance with state requirements prior to the Council’s consideration of the proposed millage rate.

The Perry City Council meeting is open to the public.
