Perry Fire Department’s Train Like a Firefighter Event Returns September 19

The Perry Fire Department invites the community to experience what it takes to be a firefighter during Train Like a Firefighter on September 19, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Davis Farm Fire Station 2 (150 Commodore Drive).

Participants will take on the department’s physical agility test, completing seven skill stations that reflect real firefighter training:

• Stair Climb
• Hose Hoist
• Keiser Sled
• Rescue Drag
• Fan Carry
• Hose Advance
• Ladder Extension

Perry firefighters will guide participants through each station before they have the opportunity to gear up with a firefighter helmet, gloves, and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and complete the full course. Finishing in seven minutes or less meets the state standard for firefighters.

The free event offers a hands-on look at the physical demands of firefighting and an opportunity for those interested in the fire service to learn more about the profession.

• Participation is limited to the first 20 people who complete a waiver on the day of the event
• Additional attendees are welcome to watch, but only 20 people will be able to participate
• Spectators are welcome

Waivers must be completed on the day of the event before participating.

PLEASE NOTE: Parking will be available in designated areas at the station. If the parking lot is full, attendees may park along one side of Commodore Drive. Please keep the roadway and station access clear so fire apparatus can safely respond to emergency calls.
