Perry Police Department to Host Women's Firearm Safety Class and Senior Citizens’ Firearms Safety Class in April 2026.

Overview of Classes:

Women’s Firearm Safety Class – April 28 | 5:30 – 7:30 PM | FREE (Range time for the course will be on Saturday, May 2, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.)

Senior Citizens’ Firearm Safety Class – April 30 | 5:30 – 7:30 PM | FREE (Range time for the course will be on Saturday, May 2, from 9-11 a.m.)

Each class will provide participants with knowledge of basic safety training including loading, unloading, and firing of handguns. In addition, the class will provide information on Georgia law regarding possession, concealment, and legal justifications for use of deadly force.

Please do not bring your firearm into the classroom. Leave it locked in your vehicle.

Class Schedule:

Classroom and range instruction will be provided for each firearm safety class:

Classroom instruction is held in the training room at the Perry Police Department (1207 Washington Street) on the date of your class. Classroom instruction begins at 5:30 PM. The classroom session lasts 2 hours.

  • Women’s Firearm Safety Class Classroom Instruction – Tuesday, April 28 from 5:30 – 7:30 PM
  • Senior Citizens’ Firearm Safety Class Classroom Instruction – Thursday, April 30 from 5:30 – 7:30 PM

Range instruction takes place at the Perry Police Department Shooting Range (261 Toomer Road) on May 2, 2026. Each range session lasts 2 hours.

  • Women’s Firearm Safety Class Range Instruction – Saturday, May 2, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
  • Senior Citizens’ Firearm Safety Class Range Instruction – Saturday, May 2, from 9-11 a.m.

Class Requirements:

Women’s Firearm Safety Class Requirements:

  • Women Participants Only
  • 21 Years Old & Older – Must bring a valid ID with the completed application package
  • MUST complete a Firearm Class Application, Liability Waiver, and consent to a Background Check – All documents must be submitted in person to the Perry Police Department at 1207 Washington Street
  • Resident of Perry or Houston County
  • Provide your own handgun, ammo, safety glasses, and ear protection
  • Although there is shade on the range, we highly recommend bringing sunscreen, a hat, and water, and wearing closed-toe shoes.

Senior Citizens’ Firearm Safety Class Requirements:

  • 60 Years & Older – Must bring a valid ID with the completed application package
  • MUST complete a Firearm Class Application, Liability Waiver, and consent to a Background Check – All documents must be submitted in person to the Perry Police Department at 1207 Washington Street
  • Resident of Perry or Houston County
  • Provide your own handgun, ammo, safety glasses, and ear protection
