WaterFirst: Perry Continues to Set the Standard for Sustainable Water Stewardship

The City of Perry’s commitment to responsible water management continues to make waves across Georgia.

Mayor Pro Tem James Moody, Senior Stormwater Inspector Sarah Nottingham, and Community Development Director Joe Duffy represented the City of Perry at the Georgia Statehouse for a ceremony celebrating WaterFirst designated communities. The event, hosted by the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority (GEFA), honored local governments across the state that demonstrate excellence in water resource management.

WaterFirst designation is held by roughly 10% of Georgia’s local governments. The recognition signifies a community’s dedication to protecting water quality, managing stormwater responsibly, and planning for sustainable growth. Perry has proudly held the WaterFirst designation since 2020 and recently earned approval for a five-year redesignation.

This achievement also brings tangible benefits to the community - including a 1% reduction in GEFA loan interest rates for infrastructure projects and improved scoring for Community Development Block Grants that promote affordable housing.

During the ceremony, Governor Brian Kemp presented a proclamation thanking WaterFirst communities for their leadership and stewardship in safeguarding Georgia’s water resources.
